Pistol Prodigies compete at Michigan Scholastic Action Shooting Program State Championships
submitted by Scott Poet
Manchester’s own Pistol Prodigies Youth Pistol and Rifle team competed at the Michigan Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) State Championships June 23-24 in Sturgis, Michigan. There were 116 student athletes, from 11 teams, representing 4 states. In total there were 221 entries of action shooting of rimfire & centerfire pistol, 1911 pistol, optic sight rifle and iron sight rifle.
This is the third year that the match has been held at the St. Joseph County Conservation and Sportsman Club in Sturgis. The Range & Safety Officers are members and parents from their club. The Match Directors were Scott & Lisa Poet, both Head Coaches of the Pistol Prodigies. Scott and Lisa serve as volunteer State Advisors for Michigan’s SASP program. They have held this position for almost 2 years.
The Pistol Prodigies had 12 members of their team compete with 7 squads, in 3 different disciplines. When the gun smoke cleared, 6 of the 7 squads had won medals. Our results were: Bronze – Rimfire Pistol – Open Division, Bronze – Iron Sight Rifle – Open Division, Bronze – Iron Sight Rifle – Intermediate Division, Bronze – Optic Sight Rifle – Intermediate Division, Silver – Rimfire Pistol – Intermediate Division, Gold – Optic Sight Rifle – Open Division.
Our competitors were: Ashton, Bodi, Bryce, Caleb, CJ, Connor, Drake, Eli, Kody, Nathan, Phoebe and Trent. We are very proud of our team! They shot well and earned every medal that they won. We can’t wait for our National Championships coming up in 2 weeks. Follow us on Facebook to see how we’re doing.
On behalf of our team, we would like to say Thank You to the SJCCSC for hosting the State Championships. Our team sponsors are one of the main reasons that we can do what we enjoy so much. Thank You to everyone in the community that supports our team. We are proud to showcase our sponsors on our team website.
The Pistol Prodigies are a youth shooting team that is open to students from all surrounding school districts, not just Manchester. Shooters range in age from 3rd grade through high school seniors. There is also a collegiate division for full-time college students. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity. The 2018-19 season is just around the corner.
