The Make it Manchester Third Thursday planning group has been hard at work refurbishing the alley between the Comerica building and Dance With Heart Studio. Watch for more improvements to come this summer!

The Third Thursday in July is an iconic day for Manchester each year, as for most of the past 65 years it has heralded the Manchester Chicken Broil. (Fun fact: the first few Chicken Broils were actually held in August!)

This year, however, there’s bound to be more than chicken on your Thursday menu. The Make It Manchester Third Thursday planning crew has created a huge afternoon of events designed to entice you to take a walk downtown after you have eaten your fill at Alumni Memorial Field.

In addition to the Farmers Market at Chi-Bro Park on Thursday from 3:30-7 pm, you can check out these great attractions along Main Street (which will be open to vehicle traffic) and on Adrian Street (which will be closed to vehicle traffic):

• Artist, Makers & Vendors Market, with about 20 different artists and vendors (4-8 pm)
• Wild World Zoo – Exotic Animal Petting Zoo and presentation (4-8 pm)
• Photo opportunities with Mermaid Luna & Mermaid Saila at Unforgettable Photos
• Street musicians and performers: The Minstrel Rav’n (real bard stories and songs), The Native Heart (jazz influenced folk rock), Fools & Flames (Dave Berger & Darcy MacConnell, classic rock covers), Drake Morency (indie folk music), and Jesse the Wanderer.
• Doggie pit stop courtesy of Proper Property Services, Inc.
• BYOB Yoga at Exhale Yoga (6:30 – 7:30 pm) in its new location in the Shoppes at Alber Mill
• Photo Booth by Throw Yo Hands Up Entertainment DJ & Photo Booth Services (4-8 pm)
• Face painting & henna ink by The Facepaint Faerie (4-8 pm)
• Kids Bubble Activity courtesy of River Raisin Antiques
• $1 Flowers available at the Flower Garden (4-8 pm)
• Blacksmith Shop open with demonstrations (4-8 pm)
• Christopher the Big Icky–a magician, psychic, fire eater, and stilt walker!
• Roosterpalooza at The Village Tap (8 pm – 2 am)
•
Sidewalk chalk art by Chris M. Monaghan
• Singe & Becca the Gypsette (Mandy Claire Howery & Becky Hanchin, fire dancers)

You can also check out the newly refurbished alley between Comerica Bank and Dance With Heart Studio–a place for shade, respite, or just a quiet, inviting spot to take your food and drink from the downtown eateries.

Plan to “Make it Manchester” this Thursday!

Fire dancing, music on the mill porch, and sidewalk chalk art are just some of the fun events you will find in downtown Manchester this Thursday.

For as little as $1 a month, you can keep Manchester-focused news coverage alive.
