Rendition of the post clock in front of the Kingsley-Jenter House, prepared by Verdin Company for the Manchester Area Historical Society.

by Ray Berg, Manchester Area Historical Society

As a final project of the Manchester Sesquicentennial Celebration, the Manchester Area Historical Society will be installing a Verdin post clock on the lawn of the Kingsley-Jenter House. This clock will face along Main Street, but will be visible from all corners of our downtown M-52/Main Street intersection. The clock is being financed from Sesquicentennial event proceeds and sponsors, and is scheduled for installation this fall.

The Society is evaluating various design and appearance aspects of the clock, and obtaining associated cost estimates. We will also be installing a commemorative plaque adjacent to the clock, containing a summary of Sesquicentennial events, the names of sponsors/donors, and the history of the “Kingsley-Jenter corner” from 1833 forward.

Shown in the picture is one rendition of how the clock may appear. We are evaluating different clock faces, lettering, and color schemes. The clock and plaque site will also include a small sitting bench, to further the village’s place-making program.

We continue to collect funds towards the clock from the sale of our Sesquicentennial Commemorative Books, and from direct donations toward the clock. Watch for the installation coming up soon!
