The dredging of the mill pond north of the Main Street bridge is the first step in the completion of the new River Raisin Park.

The dredging of the mill pond on the north side of the Main Street bridge and dam is nearing completion this weekend. Depths are being checked this weekend and the Village projects that the remaining amount of riverbed to be cleared will be removed this week. The dredging is the first step in the creation of the River Raisin Park, which will be built on the east side of the mill pond, and will feature shore access for kayaks and canoes as well as a canoe/kayak locker. The locker will enable boats to be locked up and canoers and kayakers who travel from Sharon Mills along a recently mapped water trail to take a break from the river and explore downtown. The Village is collecting bids for the construction of the new park through Sept. 12, and a decision on contractors will be made at the September 17th Village Council meeting.
