After opening the soccer season on the new turf field August 17, the Manchester High School boys’ soccer team has built an 8-4 record with some impressive wins.

During the week of August 20, the team beat defending state champion Ann Arbor Greenhills 1-0, along with defending league champion Hillsdale Academy 3-1; both games were on the road.

They opened their ISL East division season at home on August 28 with a 4-2 win over Columbia Central, and added an 8-0 home win over conference foe Onsted on September 6. In between those games, they won non-conference games against Ida and Northwest.

The Dutch have received strong offensive performances from seniors Lenin Fierro, River Spitler and Calvin Daniels, while the defense is led by seniors Owen Whitney, Reese Dresch and Carson Ridenour. Contributing at multiple positions are sophomore Henry Wehrly, senior Devon Kelly, junior Jake Rowader, and sophomore Adam Pringle. The large freshman class, led by Grant Tar, Ashton Dalton and Ian McPhail, has provided depth and versatility from the bench. Senior goalie Brayden Hayes has been steady in goal, and is backed up by sophomore Griffin Van Vuuren, who had a shutout against Onsted last week.

This week the boys travel to Blissfield for a league game on September 12. The next home game will be a showdown against division rival Lenawee Christian on Monday September 17 at 5:30 pm.
