Lady Dutch Volleyball starts off season with three wins

The MHS Lady Dutch volleyball team began their 2018 season in winning style.

On September 4, the Dutch traveled to Cascades Conference rival Vandercook Lake, bringing home a commanding 3-1 victory. Team scores were 22-25, 24-17, 25-21, and 25-19.

Led in hitting by Stephanie Messman, the Lady Dutch had a solid  +.144 hitting percentage and a 1.74 serve-receive rating led by Alyssa Darr. Kayla Engel and Alyssa Darr led in aces with three apiece, with Jayden Humphrey contributing two aces, while Avery Collins and Kayla Ridenour each had one, for a total of 10. Ridenour also led in serving percentage with 95.5 percent.

On September 6, the Lady Dutch hosted a quad-meet, which pitted Manchester vs. Dexter and Northwest high schools, and the Lady Dutch came out on top against both opponents.

Against Dexter, the Dutch led in two games, 25-17 and 25-16. Engel led the team in hitting this game, with Humphrey leading in serve-receives. Kate Pohs led in serving with 100 percent, and Manchester’s six aces were earned by Darr and Collins with two apiece, and Pohs and Humphrey each contributing one.

Against Northwest, the girls also won in two games, 25-16 and 24-20. Good led the team with a hitting percentage of .667, while Pohs and Messman each served at 100% against their foes. Collins led in aces with four, with Humphrey and Ridenour each contributing one.
