Sylvia Bateman (1924 – 2018)

Her Legacy… Sylvia Bateman, Age 94, passed away September 10, 2018. She was born on January 19, 1924 in Barbourville, Kentucky to Flemington and Amanda (White) Cobb. Sylvia married the love of her life, DeVern Bateman on March 1, 1943 in Taylor, Michigan. Sylvia, a long time Manchester resident, was a member of Community Bible Church in Manchester for many years. Sylvia was an original “Rosie the Riveter,” loved music and to dance, teaching her grandchildren to dance as well. She liked to “busy” herself by baking, painting and was an avid gardener. Sylvia loved her family; they loved her feisty, strong willed personality and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.  

Her Family… Sylvia will be missed by her sons; Richard (Kathleen) Bateman of Novi, MI and Ron (Diane) Bateman of Redford, MI, six grandchildren; Richard, Shelley, Christopher, Carrie, Patty, and Lisa; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband DeVern, a son Kenny and eight siblings.

Her Farewell… Sylvia’s family and friends gathered Friday, September 14, 2018 from 3 – 9 pm at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Manchester Chapel. Her Community Farewell was held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 11:00 am at Community Bible Church 8400 Sharon Hollow Rd., Manchester with Pastor Ron Clarke officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manchester. Memorial contributions are suggested to Community Bible Church. Please leave a message of comfort for Sylvia’s family at 1-877-231-7900, or sign her guestbook at www.borekjennings.com.
