Manchester’s 2018 CROP Walk is coming up Sunday October 7, from 1-3 pm, with the walk through Manchester starting at 1:30 pm. Participants should meet at the Manchester United Methodist Church located at 501 Ann Arbor Street around 1 pm. Walk 1 or 3 miles around the community!

To participate, find out if your church or organization has a CROP Walk team and join it; call Marlene Uphaus at (734) 428-8403; or register at www.crophungerwalk.org/manchestermi. You can also choose to donate money to support a local team instead of registering to walk yourself.

CROP Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations and groups to raise funds to reduce hunger at home and around the world. The Manchester CROP Walk has been held every year since 1995 and local contributors have raised more than $130,000 for this important charity. Over the past 23 years the number of walkers and contributions has varied year to year but Manchester should be proud that its citizens have consistently supported this important cause! Last year there were 75 walkers here in Manchester and 1,100 CROP WALK events at sites around the United States with 114,000 participants that raised $11 million!

Each local CROP Hunger Walk can choose to return up to 25% of the funds it raises to hunger-fighting programs in its own community. Since the start of the program in Manchester, the local contribution has been divided among charities which provided important local activities. This year 25% of the funds raised will be divided evenly between The Community Resource Center, Manchester Family Service, and the Manchester Senior Citizens for its weekly meal program.

Outside of Manchester, funds raised from previous CROP Walks went to help the people hurt by recent hurricanes in Texas and Florida. Please support your neighbors in the US, Manchester, and around the world who rely on food assistance programs and support.

Your support through your church, school, or direct donations will help causes right here in town, around the nation, and the world!!!

Questions? Call Marlene Uphaus at (734) 428-8403.
