A little rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the Walk to School kids last Monday!

A rainy beginning didn’t stop the Walk to School crew last week. On Monday, September 10, a dozen or so student walkers, plus teachers and volunteers, donned jackets, rain boots, a few gloves, and umbrellas to participate in the very first Walk to School day of the year.

On Wednesday and Friday, the weather was better and a good sized crowd of 35-40 participants joined in the fun each day.

This year, Walk To School meeting days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday at both locations–at the Wurster Park gazebo at 7:30 am, and Chi-Bro Park at the trail at 7:45 am. The groups split off at Chi Bro to head either to Klager Elementary or Riverside Intermediate school. Klager bus riders will be able to walk from the high school (with permission slip) each Wednesday, starting this week.

A total of 41 students from Klager and Riverside are currently participating in the Walk to School program. We applaud the walkers who are getting healthy exercise by participating in these special events! If you’d like to find out more about the program for your children, or volunteer to participate as an adult, contact Kathy O’Mara at komara@mcs.k12.mi.us.

Sunshine graced the walkers by Wednesday morning!
