A new portable transformer installed on the substation site on Territorial Street will allow for upgrades or repairs to current transformer equipment without power interruptions to residents.

After the completion of a new driveway and concrete pad over the past six weeks, the Consumers Energy transformer site on Territorial Street opposite Kirk Park is ready for some updates.

Last week’s installation included a temporary portable transformer which can be used to continue power while repair or replacement is made on some of the aging equipment on the site.

Improvements have been made at the site throughout summer, including clearing the way for the new equipment which was brought in last Tuesday. A flurry of activity at the site has had residents curiously watching the progress of this project.

Village Manager Jeff Wallace explained that this site improvement will allow for upgrades of as well as repair to any o the current equipment without any power interruptions to Consumers Energy customers, and also that the temporary equipment can be quickly and easily moved to other substations for similar reasons due to the improved entry drive onto Territorial Street.

Activity came to a climax at the transformer substation last Tuesday as the portable transformer was brought in.
