Letter to the Editor: Time for a Change
October 7, 2018
I’ve wondered for some time, what are Representative Tim Walberg’s positions on a number of topics? I asked him for clarification but have yet to receive more than form letters that avoid answering my questions. So, I ask again: What are Representative Walberg’s positions on the following …
- Separation of immigrant children from their families. This summer we heard there were 400+ children still not reunited with their parents. Now we hear the number is actually in the thousands and includes nighttime relocations of children to different parts of the country. Will the U.S. now be making orphans of immigrant children? History will judge us harshly for such cruelty. Does Representative Walberg agree with these actions? Is he doing anything to stop them?
- The Mueller investigation. Though many convictions have already occurred, some in Congress believe the Mueller investigation should end now rather than allowing it to be thoroughly completed. Does Representative Walberg agree?
- Paris Climate Change Agreement. President Trump pulled us out of this agreement, making the U.S. the only country not supporting this agreement to protect our planet. Does Representative Walberg’s silence imply his agreement?
- Cyberattacks. I have yet to hear of any federal legislation or funding created to prevent or minimize cyberattacks to our U.S. infrastructure and election systems. Why not? Is cyber protection not a priority to Representative Walberg? What is his position?
- U.S. initiated trade wars. We have global economic and political systems that have been under attack by President Trump, thus threatening our own economic stability and relationships with allies. Negative impacts are already showing up via increased costs and fewer orders in the farming, automotive, and manufacturing sectors. What is Representative Walberg’s position on these decisions?
These issues are important to me. Representative Walberg’s silence is concerning. Please consider a vote for Gretchen Driskell on November 6th. It’s time for a change.
