Katie MacAlister started her writing career by writing a technical manual. When she was told not to include any fun quips or loves scenes in the manual, she realized that novels were a little more her forte. In 2002, MacAlister published her first book of many (50 to date, to be exact), titled Noble Intentions. MacAlister writes both for young adults as well as adult fiction. She belongs to groups such as the Romance Writers of America, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and the Authors Guild. She is best known for her paranormal romance novels, having a total of six different series to choose from! She even received a RIO Award of Excellence for Best Paranormal in 2004 for her book Sex and the Single Vampire.
If you like both contemporary and paranormal romances, A Girl’s Guide to Vampires is the best place to start! This is the first book in her “The Dark Ones” series, which tells a story about a young woman, Joy, who doesn’t believe in the paranormal. Through a series of strange events, Joy is tossed into a frightening new world of vampires, ghosts, and things that go bump in the night. While Joy might not have believed in the paranormal before, she has no choice but to accept the truth. The plot thickens when Joy must untangle the mystery of a serial killer, vampires, and grapple with the fact that she’s falling in love with the very thing she refused to believe in for so long. “The Dark Ones” has 10 books in it and is the longest series that MacAlister has published.
