Teresa Spiegelberg grew up in Sharon Township and today lives near Pleasant Lake. She graduated from Manchester Community Schools and Adrian College, has worked for the past 30+ years in health care, and is running for the State House of Representatives in the 52nd district as an independent and a write-in candidate.

Spiegelberg stated, “I believe we should support our farmers, veterans, and provide a good education for our children. I see some good things in Lansing and would like to keep those going. I am ready to go work for us up in Lansing, if you are willing to take a few extra seconds voting and write my name in. I have met some of you this past spring as I was walking around house to house or seen you on the street. Hopefully I will meet even more of you before the election.”

Spielberg has never held office before, but she decided to run because she didn’t like some of the things happening in Lansing. “I figured I could either do nothing or attempt to do something,” she stated. “Running is my something. I choose to run as an independent, because I feel that people in a party tend to vote along party lines. People should vote based on the merit of the proposal, not by the party they belong to. I think that people are tired of the parties thinking of the parties and not the people.”

She wants people to know that she is basically like them and works for a living. She would like our officials to keep a balanced budget and she wants officials to realize that just because things are beginning to look better not everyone is seeing things looking better. Spielberg is also concerned with education. She stated, “We need to encourage the basics in education. I see so many young people that can’t do simple math. These are things that everyone needs in life.”

Running as a write-in candidate will be an uphill battle as her name will not appear on the ballot. On the ballot for the 52nd District State House race will be the incumbent, Democrat Donna Lasinski and Republican Teri Aiuto, who also lives in the Manchester-area, in Sharon Township.
Spielberg concluded, “Remember to vote November 6th.”
