In a national wrestling pre-season tournament featuring 16 teams from around the country this past weekend, three Manchester girls showed their excellence in the sport!

Piper Fry placed third in the intermediate division weighing in at 45 lbs. Roseanna Waters earned 6th place in the schoolgirl class, weighing in at 113lbs. And Phoenix Waters was the champion in cadet weighing in at 138lbs.

“It was Piper and Rosie’s first trip as part of Team Michigan,” said the girls’ mom, Connie Waters. “They were also on the duals team the day before.”

The tournament, held at New Palestine High School outside of Indianapolis, was sponsored by “War of the Roses,” an all-girl wrestling series, featuring wrestling teams from as far away as Georgia and Texas, and had 800 wrestlers registered.

“War of the Roses” was started by Team Michigan’s former coach, Brent Harvey, who passed away just before last year’s tournament as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Team Michigan was coached by Megan Hurst and Vincent Butts.
