At the end of its regular season, the Manchester varsity volleyball team’s record is currently 39-10-2, with an undefeated first place standing in the Cascades Conference. The conference tournament was held last Thursday afternoon at Michigan Center High School.

“We are headed into district playoffs this week at Columbia Central,” said head coach Trisca Beasley. The girls play Grass Lake on Tuesday at 5:30 pm.

Beasley named some of this year’s team leaders, starting with Jayden Humphrey, outside hitter, who has had just under 500 kills for the season.  “Jayden is a four-year varsity player and a strong asset to the team,” she said. Another notable fourth-year player is middle hitter/blocker Avery Collins, who has had 48 blocks for the season.

“Two second-year varsity players are Kayla Engel, outside hitter, with over 400 kills, and Kayla Ridenour, setter, with over 1000 assists this season,” Beasley added.

Kate Pohs plays the libero position and has 289 digs, while McKenna Good plays Middle hitter/blocker, opposite Avery, and has 37 blocks. Stephanie Messman, Hannah Woods, Anna Walz, Alyssa Smith, Alyssa Darr and Taylor Psarouthakis are the other members of the team.

“All of the girls make essential contributions to the team,” Beasley said. “Seniors include Jayden, Avery, Kate, McKenna, Stephanie, Hannah, and Anna. These girls will be difficult to replace! They are a great group of girls, both on and off the court. I am proud of their hard work and dedication to the team and to each other.”

Manchester has been ranked fourth in the state for Division 3 schools for most of the season. You can follow the girls’ progress on their Facebook page.
