Artist Donna Jackson speaking at the Art Kettle Sunday afternoon.

submitted by Laura Earle,
Art Kettle director

Detroit artist, Donna Jackson, spoke yesterday afternoon to a packed room at the Art Kettle about how she uses art making to critically think through tough issues in contemporary society. Deconstructing her experiences of race, womanhood and success through her drawings, paintings and poetry, she shared how making artwork has brought her to a place of peace, confident in herself as a unique person who does not fit “the boxes” proscribed by society. Celebrating our common threads as human beings, Donna encouraged people to think of themselves as creators, and to explore art as an action rather than an object or commodity.
