Volleyball wins Regional title, heads to quarter-finals Tuesday

The Manchester High School varsity volleyball team were declared Regional Champions on Thursday night after defeating Bath. Tuesday night is the state quarter-finals game where the Lady Dutch will meet St. Mary Catholic Central of Monroe.

With three decisive wins against Bath (25-13, 25-12, 25-10) last Thursday night, the Lady Dutch volleyball team became Regional champions for the first time since 1993, and will participate in state quarter-finals Tuesday night at Huron High School in Ann Arbor.

Leading up to the regional finals was a hard fought win over Vandercook lake on Tuesday night, with scores of 20-25, 25-18, 25-14, and 25-15.

Coach Trisca Beasley shared that some of the highlights and team leaders from the regional finals included Jayden Humphrey contributing 18 kills to her game. “Kayla Engel was right behind her with 14 kills and Avery Collins with seven,” she added. “Kayla Engel had six aces, along with Kate Pohs with three; and Kayla Ridenour had 34 assists.”

Overall in playoff games alone, Beasley said, Humphrey has had 85 kills and Engel 74 kills. Collins and Engel have nine blocks each. Pohs has had 50 digs. Engel has led the team in aces with 18, followed by Stephanie Messman with 10.

“We will be facing St. Mary Catholic Central on Tuesday at 5:30, ” Beasley continued. “We look forward to the challenge and appreciate all the support we’ve received from the community.

“It’s great to look (up) in the stands to see so many people.”
