Klager Elementary School students have been exposed to a variety of different career paths over the past several weeks. This six-week program is providing a wide range of options for pupils to explore their interests in different fields, with the opportunity to put some of the skills they currently have into practice!

Ms Melissa Yekulis is guiding the journalism class. “Our goal over the six week period will be to create a school newspaper that will be posted around town and in the local businesses,” she said.

In the first class session, the students named their paper: “Klager Community.” They  examined copies of The Mirror, the Clinton Local, the Ann Arbor News, and USA Today to better understand what is included in newspapers.

Visitor Marsha Chartrand, part of the Manchester Mirror staff, talked to the kindergarten through second-grade students to give them an overview of how newspapers are written, put together, printed, and distributed. She talked about how newspaper writers decide who will write a particular story, described the large presses on which they are printed, and shared how the Mirror reflects the community’s image.

The entire Mirror staff, along with parents, students, and friends of Klager Elementary School, look forward to see how the “Klager Community” newspaper will reflect its own unique neighborhood!
