Harold James Walkowe (1930-2018)

His Legacy… Harold James Walkowe, Age 88, passed away December 29, 2018.  He was born on October 14, 1930, in Chelsea, Michigan to Joseph and Frances (Zink) Walkowe.  Jim married the love of his life, Geneva O’Dell, on June 14, 1958, in Manchester, Michigan at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. Jim worked on the family farm growing up and milked cows with his siblings, sharing many stories with his family of those days. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Jim sold real estate for 40 years and owned his own construction business, “Walkowe Home Improvement.”  He built two bars, “The Chicken Coop” and “J & L.” Jim also served on the Manchester School board and was very proud to have been involved in making several changes to improve the education of students. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Manchester and served on the church council. Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 117 in Manchester. He enjoyed hunting and driving his “gator” around on his property. Above all he adored his family, especially the grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.  

His Family… Jim will be missed by his wife of 60 years, Geneva; five daughters: Kelley Taylor, Jayne (Chris) Long, Natalie (Jeff) Daubner, Heather Walkowe and Carol (Mark) Kurasz; seven grandchildren: Rebecca (Nick), Brent, Benjamin, Beth, Jimmy, Danielle and Kaitlin and one great grandson “Clark” on the way; two sisters Neoma Reeter and Nancy Walkowe. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Jimmy, three brothers Frank, Joe and Bill, and two sisters Evelyn and Gertrude.  

His Farewell… Jim’s family and friends will gather Friday, January 4, 2019 from 10:00 am until prayers at 12:30 pm at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Manchester Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will follow prayers at 1:00 pm at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church 210 W. Main St., Manchester. Rev. Fr. Bosco Padamattummal will serve as celebrant.
