Obituary: Mary Myrtle Hoelzer
Hoelzer, Mary Myrtle May, graced this earth for 95 years and 8 months. She passed on January 8, 2019. Mary enjoyed family and friends until the end, and her daughter’s family surrounded her peaceful departure.
Treasured mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary Myrtle was born on May 11, 1923 in Tecumseh, MI, beloved daughter of Owen Gilbert and Esther Clare (Hart) May. She attended school in Chelsea, graduating from Chelsea High School in 1941. Mary and Richard E. Hoelzer were married on June 30, 1943. Mary and Dick ran the R.E. Hoelzer Produce Company until it closed. Mary then began work at the Methodist Home (CRC), where she was a bookkeeper for over 15 years. In November 1988, she married William J. Bott who preceded her in death.
Mary leaves behind a son, James C. Hoelzer of Milan, MI and her grandson, Christopher J. (Valerie) Hoelzer, and great-grandson Christopher J. Hoelzer, Jr., all of Milan. Mary also leaves behind a daughter, Brenda (Gregory) Warman, her grandchildren Mitchell Bristle (Taelor Young), Bradley Bristle, Marcy Bristle and Megan Bristle, all of Manchester.
Mary was one of the “May” girls as she was sister to Ruby (Strieter), Jeannette (Winans) and Leroy (Bert) May. Her sister, Jeannette, survives.
Mary also leaves behind several special nieces and nephews. Mary’s greatest joy was being a Grandmother.

A gathering of friends and family was held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, MI.
