Obituary: Ethel M. Fahey
Ethel M. Fahey, a long-time resident of Manchester, Michigan and Tucson, Arizona, passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 12th at the age of 86.
Born in Manchester, Ethel was an accomplished student, graduating as Valedictorian of the Manchester High School Class of 1950. She went on to obtain a degree from Cleary College, and enjoy a long and successful career in the banking industry, starting her career at Union Savings Bank, and culminating her career as a Vice President at Bank of Lenawee in Adrian. Upon retirement, she moved to Tucson with her husband, Bernard Way. Ethel maintained her home in Manchester her entire life, returning to Michigan often to visit family and friends.
Ethel (“Aunt E”) will be remembered for her kind and gentle nature, her wisdom, strength of character, strong faith, and most of all the love, support and generosity she exhibited to her family and friends throughout her life. Ethel was an avid reader, known for sharing her multitude of books with friends and family. She maintained an adventurous spirit and love of travel her entire life, continuing to travel internationally until 2017 and visiting more than 20 countries over the years.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard Way, her Brother and Sister-in-law Richard and Judy Fahey of Manchester, Brother-in-Law John Way, and Sisters-in-law Geraldine Shewbridge and Kathleen Way, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews who gave her great joy. She was preceded in death by her sister Kathryn, her parents James and Mae Fahey, and Uncle John Fahey.
A memorial service and funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester on Saturday, May 18th. Visitation will begin at 10 am at St. Mary’s, followed by mass and burial at St. Mary’s cemetery. There will be a luncheon immediately following the burial service at St. Mary’s Church. In lieu of flowers, Memorial gifts may be made to Peppi’s House (TMC Hospice) in Tucson, Arizona or the Hospice organization of your choice.
