Washtenaw County Clean Up Day

Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority is joining the Washtenaw County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office Board of Public Works
 to host the annual Washtenaw County Clean Up Day on Saturday, May 18, 2018, from 9 am to 1 pm, at Chelsea High School, 740 N. Freer Rd., Chelsea. The event is an opportunity for Washtenaw County residents to safely dispose of many items that cannot be recycled or disposed of through trash collection systems.

Items that will be accepted include:

• glass bottles
• Rigid plastic (5 gallon bucket, laundry basket, etc.)
• Tires
• Appliances (refrigerator, dryer, a/c unit, etc.)
• Scrap metal
• Electronics (TV, computer, etc.)
• Household hazardous materials (paint, pesticides, cleaning supplies, motor oil, etc.)

Items not accepted include:

• Bulky household items (mattress, furniture, etc.)
• Construction and demolition waste (drywall, concrete, wood, bricks, etc.)
• Household garbage
• materials from businesses or out of county residents

While you can bring in four tires for free, they request a donation of $5 for each additional tire. You can also bring one TV, computer, or appliance for free, but they request a donation of $10 for each additional item.

Please consider a minimum donation of $15 to help support this effort.

The event, now in its eleventh year, can collect more than 30,000 pounds of electronics, almost 1,000 tires, and 100 Freon appliances, and close to 40,000 pounds of hazardous household waste in any given year.
