May has arrived and here in Michigan our thoughts begin to turn to summer. At the Manchester District Library, we’re no different. Plans for this year’s Summer Reading program are well under way. This year’s theme is “A Universe of Stories” so you can expect lots of out-of-this-world fun and adventure. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves–we still have some great programming planned for May.

On Friday, May 3 from 3:30-5:30 pm in the Village Room, the library will be giving away free comic books (generously donated by Vault of Midnight in A2) and during the event, kids can enter for a drawing for the complete Amulet Graphic Novel Series. Are you doing some spring cleaning? We encourage you to donate your gently-used books (popular fiction and non-fiction books for all ages welcome) on The Friends of the Library Book Donation Day, Saturday May 4 from 10 am to 12 noon. The informative Comerica Bank series continues in May with “To Rent Your Home or Buy?” on April 29 at 6 pm. Also continuing this month: the popular Once Upon a Time Book Club for children (ages 5-8) on Mondays at 4 pm, and the Maker Night series on Thursday May 16 at 3:30 pm with No-Sew Braided Rag Mat (Ages 6+). In addition, we will continue to hold our weekly Story Times and Knit Nights on Wednesdays. Finally, a reminder: the library will be closed on Sunday May 26 and Monday May 27 for Memorial Day.

We will be launching a new Writer’s Support Group in the upcoming weeks, to discuss the joys and challenges of writing, as well as goal setting and writer’s tools and resources. If you’re interested in joining, we encourage you to leave your name, contact information and days/times you are available to meet at the library’s circulation desk.

The staff of the Manchester District Library is committed to providing a destination for people of all ages. Relax, work, or try something new today. A friendly reminder: all events (guest speakers, story time, knitting, book groups, maker nights, etc.) are open to the public. One does not need to possess a library card or be a library member to attend or participate.
