Survey readies shared-use trail for summer completion

Survey stakes were posted last week along Main Street near Woodland Way for a crosswalk that will help complete the shared-use trail.

The eastward section of the community shared-use trail, utilizing the formerly abandoned railroad bed through Manchester, is set to be completed this spring and summer, and the work of a survey crew last week is the first step to making that long dream a reality for the community.

A hurdle was reached when it was realized that crossing Main Street east of Woodland Way would require the pathway to be ADA compliant for the steepness of the grade. Engineers from Stantec in Ann Arbor developed a plan, which was staked out last Thursday.

Village Manager Jeff Wallace said on Friday that the remaining work on the trail likely would be started this week, weather permitting, and will be done by Manchester contractor Ed Stahley Excavation, who provided the most favorable bid for the job.
