What an honor it was to be nominated for the Governor’s Fitness Awards Director’s Champion of Health by Matt Pegouskie of 5 Healthy Towns. Then to become a finalist was overwhelming.

I want to thank the community for all the kind words and well-wishes. I feel very blessed. Even though I was the one who was nominated, I want everyone to know that it is because of the many behind the scenes people and groups in the community that the Walk to School Program is such a success.

I need to thank the village workers who put out the cross walk signs to help ensure students safety early in the morning, all the students who take part in the program, the parents, the volunteers who get up early 3 days a week to help get students to school safely, the crossing guards, teachers, school administration, 5 Healthy Towns and Michigan Fitness Foundation for their continued support, St. Joseph Foundation, the Village of Manchester, the Mirror for their support, and local businesses from whom I have purchased incentive prizes.

As you can see, it takes a village to make the Walk to School Program such a success!
