The popular design of this year’s shirt sold out quickly!
Joy Matthews, a local resident who loves participating in the Canoe Race, designed this year’s commemorative t-shirts.

Joy Matthews, a Manchester resident and volunteer at the Community Resource Center of Manchester, designed this year’s canoe race T-shirt in a competition that received numerous entries.

“There’s nothing particularly special to say about it,” Joy said simply. “I looked at a nice photograph online to do the drawing, and then added extra details of canoes and kayaks by the bridge.”

Obviously canoe race enthusiasts think there is something “special” about Joy’s design, as the T-shirts sold briskly prior to and during the race, despite the rainy weather on Sunday!

“This will be my fifth year of doing the Manchester canoe/ kayak race, in a kayak along with a friend of mine,” Joy added. “I’m looking forward to another fun year at the race.”

Joy finished the race at 1:01:55, not placing, but certainly having a lot of fun.
