Shared-use trail progressing
Work on the shared-use trail that eventually will extend east-to-west through the village has been seeing a lot of activity over the past two weeks.
Excavation is nearly complete and layers of crushed limestone have been placed on much of the surface from the River Ridge condos east of Hibbard Street, and extending west to Torrey Street.
In addition, the section of “Railroad Street” that extends along the riverbank from Washington to Union Street has been closed to vehicular traffic and will remain so permanently. Currently only traffic cones are blocking vehicles from entering the path, but permanent bollards will be installed shortly, to create a safer trailway for walkers, bikers, and joggers.
The remaining section of trail between Torrey and Main Street will require additional work to meet ADA requirements, due to the steep slope. Crosswalks and other finishing touches are expected to be completed by the end of summer.
