Bridge nearing completion & other road work this week
Parker Road between Weber Road and Pleasant Lake Road in Freedom Township will have intermittent lane closures starting Monday June 3. Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will begin a limestone resurfacing project that is expected to take approximately two weeks. However, all dates are tentative and subject to change due to weather conditions. The road will be closed to through traffic between approximately 6 am – 5 pm each weekday. Residents and property owners who live or work within the project area will be provided access during the closure, but delays are expected.
In Manchester Township, the gravel resurfacing of Logan Road between the Village limits and M-52 has been extended because of weather. Logan Road will see intermittent lane closures continuing into this week.
In Sharon Township, Easudes Rd will see intermittent lane closures for gravel resurfacing between Jacob Rd and Sharon Hollow Rd over the next two weeks. Sharon Township supervisor, Peter Psarouthakis, explained that Easudes Rd needed to be resurfaced because of the unexpectedly long time it has been serving as a detour for the Sharon Valley Road Bridge.
WCRC released an update on the Sharon Valley Bridge, “Despite the rain, things are moving along nicely… Our contractor poured the west bridge approach last week. Once that has cured, the bridge crew has pretty much wrapped up their portion of the project. Next, it is the road building crew’s turn. They will be onsite this week (if the weather cooperates) to start shaping the roadside slopes, placing the aggregate base and preparing for asphalt paving. We are still on track for the bridge to be completed and the road reopened before the Fourth of July, as long as the weather cooperates.”
Sharon Valley Bridge is one of three bridges and culverts currently closed in Sharon Township, the other two being Lehman Road over the Mill Creek Tributary, between Sylvan Road and M-52, and Bethel Church Road Culvert over the River Raisin Tributary between Sharon Hollow Road and Meyers Road. Sharon Valley Bridge is busy enough to qualify for federal funds to repair, but the two culverts are not. The county is responsible for half of the funding to repair them and the remain half must come from alternative sources, in this case Sharon Township. Psarouthakis explained that it is impossible for the Township to fund those repairs and that spending the hundreds of thousands of dollars needed would bankrupt the township.
