Obituary: Helen Alice Benedict (CURRY)
Helen was born to Anna “Luella” and Alfred “Guy” Benedict of Hulbert, Michigan. She married Donald Curry on December 24, 1942.
Helen worked for a few years as a proof-reader for the Ypsilanti Press. She was then employed as the secretary of the Maintenance Department of the University of Michigan until her retirement. After retiring, Helen and Don bought a marina they named “Curry’s Landing” in central Michigan near Beaverton.
During her long and active life, Helen was associated with Girl Scouting, 4-H, and the Belleville Professional Women’s Club. She loved to sew, quilt, paint, golf, and play cards.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Don, of 58 years, her parents, one sister, and four brothers.
She is survived by her children, Alyce of Pensacola, Florida; Donna of Lake Forest, Illinois; Larry of Midland, Michigan; and Ardyth (E. James) Hammond of Manchester. She loved her grandchildren: Heather (Binion) Meek of Florida; Kevin Binion of Temperance, Michigan, and Chelsea Curry of Chicago, Illinois; and her great-grandchildren: Larissa, Brianna, Alexis, Emma, and Evan. She was also blessed with many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, great-grand nieces and nephews; and even great-great grand-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on July 13, 2019 at 10:30 am at the Tahquamenon United Methodist Log Chapel, Hulbert, Michigan followed by interment next to Don in the Hulbert Cemetery.
