Autumn is in full force now. It seems like every day is at least 15 minutes shorter than the day before. But for many, fall is the best time of year. What’s not to love about crisp evenings, trees garbed in flaming reds, oranges and golds, and the slower pace of life that comes with the end of summer traveling and gardening?

It’s time to cozy up by a crackling fire with a great book or two, and those books are just waiting for you to come in and rescue them from their lonely existence on the bookshelves. Speaking of book rescues, this month will be our final Friends of the Library book donation day until after the holidays. Bring your gently-loved books in on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 10 am to noon, and we will help them find a new forever home.

Program-wise, we have our perennial favorites still going strong, like Knit Nights (Wed. 6:30 pm), Story Times (Wed. 10:30 am), and Once Upon a Time Book Club (Mon. 4p m). Also continuing are our monthly programs: Family History Guild (10/15 6:30 pm), beekeeping (10/21 6:30 pm), Maker Night (10/17 3:30 pm), and Computer Basics (10/29). On Wed., Oct 23 at 6 pm Cindy Clark (Comerica Bank) will be teaching a workshop, “How to Protect Yourself from Identity Theft.”

Finally, a note about Halloween. That day’s Story Time will be a Halloween-themed party. That evening, due to the anticipated zombie/ghoul takeover, the Manchester District Library will close at 5pm. The library staff wishes all our patrons a fun and safe Halloween!
