Village Commissions need help

Chi-Bro Park is one of the parks overseen by the Parks Commission.

Village President Pat Vailliencourt is looking for a few good people.

Due to recent resignations, the village is seeking residents to serve on the Village Planning Commission, the Village Parks Commission, and the Downtown Development Authority.

Those who wish to serve on commissions may require special skills. For example, those on Village Planning Commission may require some degree of construction, architectural, or legal background, or other planning-related expertise. The Planning Commission serves as an advisory body to the Council on matters of zoning and land use. It also reviews and adopts the Village Master Plan. Planning commissioners shall be “qualified electors of the village,” and should be representative of the economic, governmental, education, and social development of the village.

Parks commissioners are responsible to create an annual parks budget, and after Council approval at the beginning of the budget year, administering the budget with periodic reports to council. The Parks Commission is also responsible for the development of a five-year plan that outlines proposed enhancements to Manchester’s Parks system.

With the renewed interest in the Village’s downtown, the Downtown Development Authority was formed in 2004. To serve on the Downtown Development Authority, it is preferred that residents own a business or a building/residence within the DDA District (see dda_map.)

Individuals interested in applying for any of the above commissions, or to be placed on a waiting list for another position, should submit a letter of interest and a resumé to the Manchester Village offices, P.O. Box 485, 912 City Rd., Manchester, MI 48158. Letters and resumes may also be submitted via email to jschaible@vil-manchester.org.

For additional information on the positions that may be available, you may also contact the Village offices at (734)428-7877 or jschaible@vil-manchester.org.

For as little as $1 a month, you can keep Manchester-focused news coverage alive.
