This group is ready to walk to Klager from Chi-Bro Park!

It has been a great start to this year’s Walk to School program, coordinated by Klager teacher Kathy O’Mara. Up to 60 students in grades K-6 are walking to school multiple times per week, and many junior and senior high schoolers are being spotted along the way as well!

“We are getting a great turnout for so early in the year,” O’Mara said. “We hope that it will continue to grow as the school year goes on.”

Aspiring walkers are especially encouraged to join the annual National Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 2, which will include prizes for every walker!

Kids who ride the bus are able to join in the fun, too. Walk to School volunteers are at the high school bus drop off every Tuesday and Thursday to meet students who want to start their school day with a quick walk to either Klager or Riverside Schools. Get a permission slip signed, and turn it in to your bus driver, to participate with this program.

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are regular Walk to School days and meeting places are at Wurster Park at 7:30 am, and Chi-Bro Park at 7:45 am.

Walkers head down Dutch Drive toward Klager Elementary School.

Bikes on the racks at the high school prove that even the “big kids” value their walk-to-school time.

Walkers and riders prepare for the first Walk to School day at Wurster Park on Monday, September 9.
