2016 was the last time the Survival Flight medical transport helicopter was at the Manchester Township Fire Department fire station. The  helicopter is scheduled to land at the fire department’s open house around 1 pm on Sunday, October 13 and stay for about an hour, barring any emergency that it may be needed to respond.

The Manchester Township Fire Department is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®)—to promote this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!” The campaign works to educate everyone about the small but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe.

In a typical home fire, you may have as little as one to two minutes to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Escape planning and practice can help you make the most of the time you have, giving everyone enough time to get out.

These messages apply to virtually any location. Situational awareness is a skill people need to use wherever they go. No matter where you are, look for available exits. If the alarm system sounds, take it seriously and exit the building immediately.

To celebrate Fire Prevention Week, the Manchester Township Fire Department will be hosting an open house on Sunday, October 13 from 1 to 3 pm to promote “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!” Through educational, family-oriented activities, residents can learn more about the importance of planning your escape. There will also be equipment displays and kids young and old will be able to spray a working fire hose. The Manchester Township Fire Department is located at 275 South Macomb Street.
