On Sunday, October 6th, Manchester held its annual CROP Walk, just as it has every year since 1995. CROP Walk was founded in 1969, making this the 50th year. In honor of this milestone, Manchester organizers set two goals, to have 50 walkers participate and to raise $5,000. They had 52 walkers and are close to meeting their second goal! Currently, their total is at $4,411 but if you want to help them reach $5,000 you can still donate online at www.crophungerwalk.org/manchestermi or contact Marlene Uphaus at (734) 428-8403.

CROP stands for Christian Rural Overseas Program, which was started as an agency for Church World Services in 1946 to help starving countries in Europe after WWII. The walks started in 1969 and were the original fund-raising effort. For nearly half a century, CROP Hunger Walks have ensured that more people worldwide have access to nutritious, sustainable food sources. In addition, 25% of the total raised will be divided between the Community Resource Center, Manchester Family Service, and the Manchester Area Senior Citizens for its weekly meal program.
