Amendments to the Sharon Township Ordinance Authorizing Medical Marijuana Facilities and the Ordinance Prohibiting Marihuana Establishments except Medical Marihuana Facilities as Licensed by the State and Permitted by the Township

Public Notice is hereby given that on Thursday, October 3, 2019, the Township Board of Sharon Township adopted amendments to the Sharon Township Ordinance Authorizing Medical Marijuana Facilities and the Ordinance Prohibiting Marihuana Establishments except Medical Marihuana Facilities as Licensed by the State and Permitted by the Township ,a summary of which appears below.

Sharon Township previously adopted an ordinance authorizing medical marijuana grower and processing facilities in Sharon Township for a limited number of facilities with an active and valid operating license issued by the State of Michigan pursuant to the Michigan Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act and a Permit issued by Sharon Township. This Ordinance Authorizing Medical Marijuana Facilities has been amended to permit medical marijuana facilities within the Township with a township issued permit and with a license issued by the State of Michigan pursuant to the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act, to transfer and sell marihuana to marihuana establishments provided they meet the requirements of the ordinance.

Sharon Township also previously adopted an ordinance prohibiting all marihuana establishments within the boundaries of the Township except those Medical Marijuana Facilities with an active and valid operating license issued by the State of Michigan pursuant to the Michigan Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act, Act 281 of the Public Acts of Michigan of 2016, and with an active and valid permit issued by Sharon Township pursuant to the Township’s Medical Marihuana Facilities Ordinance. This ordinance has been amended to permit medical marijuana facilities that meet the requirements of the township’s Medical Marihuana Facilities Ordinance to operate as specified in that ordinance. Furthermore, the penalty provisions of the ordinance were amended to provide that fines for violations of the ordinance shall not be less than $250 for the first violation and not less than $500 for subsequent violations.

Copies of the complete text and true copy of the Amendments to the Ordinances can be reviewed or obtained at the office of the Sharon Township Clerk on Thursdays between 9:00 A.M. and 12:00 P.M. at Sharon Township Hall, 18010 Pleasant Lake Rd, Manchester, MI 48158. The complete text and true copy of the Amended Ordinances will also be posted on the Sharon Township website www.sharontownship.org.
