It was a dark and stormy night …

It certainly was dark, and at least for the first group of “Haunted Manchester Walking Tour” participants, a very stormy night to be out and about walking through the downtown on Saturday, October 26.

Torrential downpours did not deter the tourists on the 7:30 scheduled walk sponsored by the Manchester Area Historical Society, that took attendees to several sites with possible “ghostly” sightings, unusual phenomena, and related stories attached. The Manchester panther, a Native American burial ground, a doctor’s missing head, and other unexplained occurrences, both past and present, were all part of the tour, which sold out two sessions.

With local storyteller extraordinaire Breeda Miller as tour guide, the adverse weather conditions seemed to enhance the tour, which attracted about 40 attendees, rather than detract from it! Umbrellas, raincoats, hats and other outerwear were all still drying off on Sunday afternoon, while enthusiastic participants talked about the fun they had the evening before.

Back at the Kingsley-Jenter House, everyone was able to dry off a bit and enjoy suitably spooky treats and refreshments.

“We look forward to doing this again,” said Ray Berg of the MAHS. “Maybe with less inclement weather!”
