Luther C. Klager Elementary School announced last week that first grade teacher Ellen Supers has been named MiSTEM Region 2 STEM Integration Educator of the Year. This award recognizes an educator who primarily teaches outside of traditional STEM-fields and who has a consistent record of integrating STEM-principles and high quality STEM-related experiences for students.

In a letter to Supers, D. Scott Heister the Mi STEM Region 2 Director stated, “[You] should be very proud of your many accomplishments. As the selection committee read over and discussed the many powerful applications, your creativity, dedication to our profession and passion became evident.” Supers’ application quickly rose to the top of this very strong group of Master Teachers throughout our Region, Heister added.

Supers will be honored on February 6 at the MiSTEM Region 2 Educator of the Year Recognition Banquet at Washtenaw Community College. This celebration will recognize and honor Supers as STEM Integration Educator of the Year, as well as the STEM Educator of the Year. She will also receive a $1,000 grant to use to expand STEM exposure for her students and to assist in her pursuit of excellence in STEM education at Klager.

Heister stated in the letter, “I am in awe of the work that you are doing to engage our youth in challenging and meaningful educational endeavors around STEM education. As a Master Teacher, you should be proud of what you have accomplished and I applaud your efforts as you continue to positively impact our region.”

Congratulations to Ms. Supers on being selected as the inaugural MiSTEM Region 2 STEM Educator of the Year!

Michigan, together with business, education, and community partners, is embarking on a journey to create a MiSTEM Network throughout the state. This opportunity grew out of Governor Snyder’s MiSTEM Advisory Council recommendation to make Michigan a world leader in STEM education. MiSTEM Region 2 area is made up of 6 counties.
