It was an exciting night in Vandercook Lake on Wednesday, February 12, as the Manchester Flying Dutchmen varsity basketball team travelled to take a big win over the Jayhawks by a phenomenal score of 98-74.

“We almost hit that century mark,” commented head coach Mike Ahrens. “In addition, senior Tyler Horky broke a few more records in the game.”

Just “a few.” Scoring a whopping 58 points in the game, Horky set a new Manchester individual game scoring record, and also exceeded the former three-point field goal record with a total of nine for the night. In the process, he surpassed Brent Leverett’s 2002 record of the most career three-pointers. Leverett’s career record of 124 was shattered as Horky has now accumulated 132 career three-point field goals, with at least six games remaining in the season.

“It should be noted that Tyler totaled 27 points just in the third quarter of the game,” Ahrens added. “He also dished out six assists and collected five steals in this game.”

Currently, Horky is averaging 30.4 points per game, placing him number one in the state across all divisions. He ranks 38th in the nation with this average.

Again, the stats weren’t all about Horky, as senior Braeden Caszatt scored a double-double against Vandy with 10 points and 12 rebounds; sophomore Aiden Kelly earned a double-double as well with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Kelly also was awarded the “defensive player of the game” honors.

The Dutchmen, currently 6-9 on the season, will host East Jackson this coming Friday, Feb. 21. This will be Senior Night for the team. Come out and support our Dutch varsity!
