New MDL Youth Services Librarian, Stacia Serafin
The Manchester District Library is delighted to welcome a new staff member this month. Stacia Serafin will come on board as the new MDL Youth Services Librarian on March 1st. Stacia received her undergraduate degree from Siena Heights University and will complete her master’s degree in Science and Information at the University of Michigan in May. Most recently, she comes to us from an internship within the public services and youth department at the Ann Arbor District Library. She enjoys singing, knitting, and walking her two dogs—Moyer and Layla.
Ms. Stacia will introduce an all-new Preschool Story Time format for ages 1 to 5 on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30 am. She will have a theme for the whole week, so feel free to choose one or attend both days. A brand-new Baby Story Time with Ms. Stacia will offer read-aloud, singing, and free play for ages 0 to 24 months on Thursdays at 1 pm.
After 16 fun-filled years serving as MDL’s Youth Services Librarian, Ms. Karen will step into a new role and take on new responsibilities in the library. Be sure to stop by the front desk and say hello!
In addition to new youth programming, MDL will also host the annual Manchester High School Art Show this month. Join us for a special open house event on Friday, March 13 from 6-8 pm, or drop in anytime during the library’s regular hours March 14-26 to view the student artwork on display.
Finally, we do still have a few spots available for our Paint & Take class on Thursday, March 5 at 6:30 pm. We’re hosting Bethany Stone of The Painted Owl art studio for a simple painting project — a fun St. Patrick’s Day gnome on a 12-inch piece of wood. The design will be pre-sketched; all you need to do is follow step-by-step instructions to paint it. Cost for the class is $15 and advance registration is required. To see a sample of a finished project and register, visit www.thepaintedowl89.com and browse Upcoming Workshops.
Our next family movie matinee will be Frozen II, the further adventures of the Snow Queen Elsa, Elsa’s kind-hearted and optimistic sister Anna, the comedic snowman Olaf, and mountain guru Kristoff as they venture deep into the forest to discover the truth about an ancient and legendary mystery. Screen time in the Village Room is noon on Saturday, March 7; snacks will be provided.
Regular programming also continues in March, including Young Readers Book Club (weekly, Mondays), Tea Time (3/3), Writers’ Support Group (3/4 and 3/18), Adult Book Discussion (3/18), and more. See page 3 for a complete list of March programming by date.
