Lila Harvey, Miss Poppy 2016, and American Legion Auxiliary member Liz Wallace, hope you will donate to this year’s Auxiliary poppy drive by mail.

Submitted by Rita Huber, ALA Unit #117

As this pandemic has taken so much away at this time, The American Legion Auxiliary is asking for the community’s help. Since our annual Poppy Day, scheduled for May 15, is in jeopardy, we are asking for donations.

All  money collected on Poppy Day is solely used to benefit veterans, active service personnel and their families. The American Legion in Manchester supports the Veterans Hospital in many ways. We attend the Christmas workshop at the VA hospital, which allows hospitalized veterans to shop for their families, at no cost to them. We also donate to the hospital coffee fund, sponsor bingo parties at the hospital for veterans, give to women’s veterans’ projects, as well as help homeless veterans.

Please remember these men and women, who have fought  to defend our country and some gave their lives for our country.

In past years, you have seen the ladies in various places throughout town with the red poppies, which are hand made by disabled veterans around the state and country. Because of COVID-19, you will not see us this May. As this is the biggest way we have to continue to serve our veterans we need your help. Please consider making a donation to the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 117, P.O. Box 731, Manchester, MI 48158.
