Letter to the Editor: Support the Post Office
April 22, 2020
To the Editor:
While most of us are busy searching the news on the virus, another bombshell may be heading for rural and small town America. Many reports recently say that the U.S. Postal System may go out of business by the fall.
With the lack of business mail, currently the USPS is facing massive budget shortfalls. There have been efforts to bail the system out, but our President is a fan of privatizing the post office and has told Congress that he would veto any form of help. If we depend on the good will of business to deliver our mail, our finances, and our medicines, we should look at how that business model has left us without a grocery and a pharmacy.
I think we should all contact our congressman, Tim Walberg, and let him know we want the post office to remain out of bounds for privatization.
