Blake Miller

The Live From Riverfolk music series will present percussionist Mike List along with Blake Miller and The Old Fashioned Aces, starting at 7:30 pm this Thursday, June 25.

Mike List kicks off the evening with the first concert at 7:30 pm. List is a metro Detroit-based globalized percussionist, playing both western and non-western instruments from around the globe. His performances have ranged from world music fusion in bars, contemporary music in art spaces, tabla in church services, and classical music in punk anarchist communes. He has worked with several groups that have performed at past Riverfolk events, including Celtic fusion artists Nessa, the Dave Sharp Worlds Quartet playing world music fusion, and the string quartet CutTime Simfonica.

Blake Miller & the Old Fashioned Aces, who will begin playing at 8:30 pm, are breathing new life into traditional Cajun music. They appear as an acoustic trio and a full electric band. “In a world where it seems everyone is continually stretching the boundaries of Louisiana French music, the Aces nest comfortably inside the well worn tracks of Cajun music,” according to their website. From old fiddle tunes, to classic dance floor packers, to bilingual country classics, their music is comfort food for the Cajun music fan.

These two diverse artists will certainly bring some music and special flavor to your Thursday evening. Tune in at the Riverfolk Music & Arts Facebook Page at 7:30 pm, and prepare to be entertained.
