Edward James Weinhardt (June 5, 1965 – August 12, 2020)

Edward James Weinhardt, 55, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida after a sudden severe illness. He was born on June 5, 1965, in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Peter Joe and Nancy (Alexander) Whittaker.   Jim never had any children of his own. He graduated from Saline High School in Saline, Michigan class of 1983. Since Jim’s car accident in 1985 that left him with severe brain injuries he has resided in several assisted living facilities with his last residence being Eisenhower Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan (he was at their sister facility in Jacksonville on vacation when Covid-19 hit and then he became too ill to travel back to Michigan). As a young boy Jim enjoyed participating in Cub Scouts, Webelo’s and Boy Scouts where his father Peter “Joe” participated as well being an assistant Scout Master. Jim’s accomplishments were many during his scouting years as he was just one badge away from being an Eagle Scout. Pre accident Jim loved to camp, drive in demolition derbies at the local fairs and going to car shows.

Jim will be missed by his father Peter; siblings, Carol “Jeannie” Weinhardt, Lillian Marie (Roy) Ebersole  and Leland Arthur Weinhardt; niece Shawna Greschner, nephew Joe Minck; uncle John Kirby (Carol) Weinhardt  and cousins Robert (Sharon) Weinhardt, William (Beverly) Weinhardt and Beth (Brian) Fargher and many second and third cousins. Jim is preceded in death by his stepmother Nancy Jane (Terwilliger) Weinhardt.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held later after Covid-19 restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Eisenhower Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan so they can continue to care for people with brain injuries like Jim’s.  Please leave a message of comfort for Jim’s family or sign his guestbook at www.einederfuneralhomes.com.
