The Manchester Knights of Columbus, Fr. Edwin A. Fisher Council 4354, in conjunction with St. Mary Catholic Church Manchester, recently operated a school supplies donation program for Manchester Community Schools. This year, all donations went to Riverside Intermediate School.
In just four weekends, St. Mary’s parishioners donated many much-needed supplies to assist those young students most in need of the necessities for an elementary school education. Donated were the obvious things like pencils, paper, crayons, markers and tissues. But, some other great ideas like sanitary wipes, pencil cases, folders and backpacks were collected as well. Those items still don’t tell the whole story, though; as countless other thoughtful supplies were generously given so that many less fortunate young students have access to items that others take for granted.
Programs like this are the foundation of what makes living in a small, caring community so rewarding. Thank you to St. Mary Catholic Church and especially to the Knights of Columbus for spearheading this program. Look for more programs sponsored by the K of C in the future like youth contests in soccer and basketball, a Tootsie Roll Drive to raise funds for intellectually disabled persons, and assisting St. Mary’s in the return of our famous Fish Fries during Lent before Easter.
