MHS Varsity soccer remains undefeated

The 2020 Manchester High School boys’ varsity soccer team remained undefeated following their latest match on September 14 vs. the Quincy Orioles. Competing at home, the Flying Dutchman played with intensity from the start and jumped out to a quick lead following an early goal by senior captain Henry Wehrly.
Throughout the first half, the Dutchmen played as a cohesive unit and netted five more goals while Manchester goalkeeper junior Anthony Bargardi and the defense unit of juniors Grant Tar, Nathan Booth, Ashton Dalton and sophomore Jacob Morin kept the Orioles scoreless.
In the second half, the coaching staff made changes in the player positions and moved some of the typical defense players to offense in order to get a good look at multiple player/formation combinations. As well, newcomers to the team freshmen Curtis Krause-Bean and Jackson DuRussel received ample playing time. With these adjustments, the Dutchmen scored one additional goal.
The match ended as a 7-0 shutout for the Manchester team, highlighted by three goals by Wehrly.
“I was excited to get the hat-trick, but felt even better to have the team win,” said Wehrly.
Other goal contributors were junior Max Edwards, sophomores Tyler Lutton, Jacob Morin, and Derek Huff. Morin and Huff scored their first goals as members of the Manchester team.
“Scoring my first goal for Manchester has been one of the highpoints of my Manchester High School career thus far,” said Morin. Assists were from Edwards (x2), Tar, senior captain Adam Pringle, and freshman Luis Baron.
The week of September 21, Manchester will play three games: September 21 away vs. Leslie, September 23 home vs. Hillsdale Academy, and September 24 away vs. Clinton. Future home games can be watched live at https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/watch-events. A subscription is required.
