Eddie Walz July 30, 1940-October 21, 2020

Edwin Thomas Walz, 80, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Chelsea. He was born on July 30, 1940, in Norvell, Michigan to Oscar and Daisy B. (Mellatt) Walz. Eddie married the love of his life, Judith Kirk, on June 10, 1961, at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Manchester.

He will be remembered as being a farmer through and through. Eddie loved working the family farm. He is proud Manchester High School graduate of 1958, and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame; he was also a member of the Future Farmers of America. Eddie wore many hats in life–he worked for Ford Motor Company for 28 years and and was a 812 Union Post member. He owned and operated Ed Walz Masonry and was a member of Trowel Trades -14 Union Post. He was an active member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church. Eddie is Past Grand Knight of the Manchester Knights of Columbus. Eddie also served on the Manchester Fire Department for 14 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.

Eddie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy; his children, Laurie (Greg) Sanders of Manchester, Mark (Tracie) Walz of Sanford, and Patrick (Amanda) Walz of Manchester; grandchildren Garett, Justin, Claudia, Kirsten and Devin; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; sons Brian and Bradley; brother Norm, and sisters, Barbara Vansickle, and Mary Kensler.

Eddie’s family and friends will gather Sunday, October 25, 2020 from 4  – 8 pm (7 pm Rosary Service) at Eineder Funeral Homes – Manchester Chapel. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 26, 2020 at 10 am at St. Mary Catholic Roman Church, gathering to begin at 9:00 am. Rev. Fr. Bosco Padamattummal will serve as celebrant with the burial following at St. Mary Roman Catholic Cemetery in Manchester. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Dutchmen Firefighters Association or to the Manchester Alumni Association.
