The Carpe Diem String Quartet performed at Klager Elementary School on Friday afternoon, thanks to Riverfolk Music and Arts and Great Lakes Performing Arts Association. These fine musicians played three programs for the students, including information about their instruments and the compositions they played.
“The students were able to ask questions and participated with enthusiastic applause,” said Elaine Osterbur, Riverfolk Music & Arts Organization Board member. “What a great opportunity for our young people. This was a great day for the students….Manchester can be proud!”
Klager Principal Karin Villarreal said of the concerts, “I think the thing that stuck out the most was that the students were so engaged and willing to answer and ask questions. Being outside, with the sun shining, and the bright blue sky as a backdrop, made us forget how different this school year has been.”
Villarreal added that she personally found it “incredible” that four musicians traveled from Washington, Colorado, and Texas to enjoy an opportunity to play music. The team of musicians worked so well together and were so in tune with young children.
“They were impressed by the innocence and fun questions,” Villarreal concluded. “It truly made me take a minute and remember the power of music and the joy of tapping your feet or clapping your hands with friends.”
This special outreach opportunity for Riverfolk was a prelude to a livestream of the Carpe Diem String Quartet on Sunday afternoon.
