Volume of new COVID-19 cases delays contact tracing in Washtenaw

On Friday, the Washtenaw County Health Department warned on social media that they are currently overwhelmed responding to the influx of positive COVID-19 cases in our county and that this is resulting in delays in contacting tracing.
They stated, “We are handling about 80-100 new cases of COVID-19 every day. In the past two weeks, we’ve had a total of 1,010 confirmed cases in Washtenaw County. Each of those cases comes with multiple close contacts, meaning our staff is making hundreds of calls each day to inform close contacts that they may have been exposed. This volume of cases means that despite our staff working as hard as we can, we are not able to investigate or notify close contacts as quickly as we’d like. If you’ve been exposed, you might not get a call from us right away.”
The health department urged everyone to follow isolation and quarantine precautions and included guidelines to follow if you test positive for COVID-19 or have been exposed, to help prevent spreading COVID-19 to others. They also thanked their contact tracers and case investigators, as well as everyone who is working hard in our community to protect others.
