Local author Jennifer Carson releases new picture book, Dragons Don’t Dance Ballet

Local author Jennifer Carson has a new picture book out called Dragons Don’t Dance Ballet.

Dragons Don’t Dance Ballet, aimed at readers aged 4 – 8 (and those young at heart) tells the charming tale of Esmeralda, a dragon who works the spotlight at the Metropolitan Ballet, even though what she really wants to do is dance. Encouraged by her friend Harold to audition, Esmeralda takes a leap of faith only to discover that she doesn’t quite fit in with the other ballerinas. But Esmerelda isn’t ready to give up—and neither is Harold!

Carson stated, “Dragons Don’t Dance Ballet challenges body image expectations and encourages little ones to go for their dreams.” Additionally, the story which will speak to anyone who feels like they don’t fit in and emphasizes the importance of having a supportive friend, with fun and approachable illustrations.

Dragons Don’t Dance Ballet, published by Vinal Publishing (ISBN: 978-1734503647) is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or your local independent bookseller, and was recently picked up by Walmart.

Carson, a Manchester High School graduate, lives in Clinton with her husband, four sons, and many furry friends. She grew up on a steady diet of Muppet movies and Renaissance faires and would occasionally be caught reading under the blankets with a flashlight. Besides telling tales, Jennifer likes to create fantasy creatures and characters and publishes her own sewing patterns.

Dragons Don’t Dance Ballet is the eighth book Carson has written. Her work includes stories for the littlest readers to the oldest.
