Mark Rose, the local connection to Shoreline Wild Salmon, delivers to Acorn on a regular basis.

The Manchester Mirror is planning a series of articles to introduce the many vendors at Acorn Farmers’ Market & Café to the community. Each week a different vendor will be featured, to highlight the wide variety of offerings at our local Market, both now and in the future. Watch for this regular feature to learn more about the people who make up the backdrop to this unique Manchester business!

This week, we meet the folks of Shoreline Wild Salmon of Pelican, Alaska, owned by Marie Rose, Keith Heller, and Joe Emerson; and local Michigan delivery representative, Mark Rose (Marie’s dad).

Although Shoreline may be one of our furthest-away vendors, Mark provides the local connection to Manchester and Acorn!

The business “began in 2016, so it’s been going on five years,” explains Marie. “The name Shoreline Wild Salmon was inspired by the Shoreline Scow, a fish-buying platform outside of Pelican that is owned by Keith and his wife, Deb. It is historically female-operated, and is where Marie worked at the time when the idea of starting Shoreline Wild Salmon began.”

Marie, Keith, and Joe started traveling to Michigan to sell their salmon at farmers’ markets, as a way to meet and interact with customers in Michigan directly. One of those farmers markets was the Manchester farmers market, which is how they learned about Acorn and began providing them with products on a regular basis.

“Our salmon is hook and line caught on the coast of Southeast Alaska,” Marie explains, “meaning we bring salmon aboard one at a time, which is the most sustainable method of commercial fishing and allows us to produce the highest quality possible. The salmon we handle are wild; they are truly the superfood of the sea and have numerous health benefits.”

Marie says that the best thing about being connected with farmers markets, including Acorn, is the people.

“Our favorite thing about being an Acorn vendor is being able to stay connected with everyone in Manchester,” she adds. “We really love attending the farmers market in person and have been missing those in-person interactions a lot over the past year. We are so thrilled that Acorn allows us the opportunity to still have a presence in the Manchester area on a regular basis.”

Once Acorn is in its new location, Shoreline looks forward to working on expanding its line of products available for customers at Acorn.
